I receive much spam.  It covers many different topics.  One topic I had not received any spam pertaining to has been DHL the shipping company.  That is until today.   Today I shipped a package to Mexico City using DHL and what do I receive in the mail?  I received the following:

Manager Herschel Platt < services@dhl-usa.com >

Dear customer!

The courier company was not able to deliver your parcel by your address.
Cause: Error in shipping address.

You may pickup the parcel at our post office personaly.

Please attention!
The shipping label is attached to this e-mail.
Print this label to get this package at our post office.

Please do not reply to this e-mail, it is an unmonitored mailbox!

Thank you,
DHL Delivery Services.

I emailed the recipient of the DHL package immediately after getting home.  After I did this I received the spoof email.

The spoof email had an zip file attachment:  DHL_Label_5cc87.zip  Inside the zip file was an executable named:  DHL_Label_5cc87.exe  –  Of course I did not run this.

Take Away Lesson:  The email address is one I use very infrequently so I knew something was wrong.  The important point is that someone knew WHEN to send this email to me that I would be most vulnerable to its lie.   My best guess is a server on the internet that is forwarding my plain text  unencrypted  email is monitoring the contents.   Be careful.  The internet has ears.   If you do not want someone to read what is in your email then encrypt it.
