I ran across an interesting paper while searching for other things: http://www.cmu.edu/all/Lecture711.pdf The interesting observation I made was in the diagram.  A very large percentage of electrical energy is lost in the transmission.  This suggests that when a viable on site generation method is finally found that its implementation will most likely run like wildfire due to the double savings.

There are skilled people and there are stupid people.  These are people who do good and people who do harm.  Whether this is due to a malignant nature or due to plain simple stupidity is not the topic of discussion here.
