These small diameter tray form factor server fans have to spin like jet engines to keep the server cool. I set them up with but high rise fans sticking out like a blower on a hemi. That quieted them down.
Notes
Noise reduction for development server
- Use Xeon heat sinks rising up above case lid
- Use low noise 40mm fans qty=4 in place of the stock 25 cfm units: FAN DC AXIAL 12V 40X28 TAC OUT – FFB0412SHN-F00
- Socket = 604 with pins – appears 603 and 604 series heatsinks will both work
Parts for solution = high rise heat sink with fan on both cpu's
- Cooljag JAC268A Cooljag
- Low Noise parts – Acousticpc
- #1 Xeon Heatsink / fan on ebay – low cost seller
- Better description on item of #1
- A similar fan with acoustic rating of 30dba
Parts for solution = replace noisy fans with quiet ones
- assembly with 4 sets of 2 5cfm fans back to back – Dell PowerEdge 1850 Cooling Fan PN# Y2205 Set of 4 fans Datasheet for fans used in the assembly 28dba for a single fan on low, on high is 60dba …bad!! Saw a comment in the silent server article about how is trying to replace this!
